Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a highly skilled Acquisition Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide expert-level support to a government aviation program. The Acquisition SME will be responsible for leading and advising on all aspects of acquisition processes, including planning, procurement, contract management, and program execution. This role requires deep expertise in government acquisition procedures, particularly within the aviation sector, and will involve working closely with program managers, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure the timely and efficient acquisition of resources, services, and technologies to support aviation operations.

 

Examples of duties include but not limited to:

  • Lead the development and execution of acquisition strategies for aviation-related programs. Advise on best practices, processes, and methods for obtaining goods and services that meet program requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the entire procurement lifecycle for aviation-related contracts, including the preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), evaluation of vendor proposals, and negotiation of terms and conditions. Ensure all contracts are compliant with federal regulations (FAR, DFARS, etc.) and support the program’s objectives.
  • Ensure all acquisition activities comply with applicable federal acquisition regulations (FAR), the Department of Defense (DoD) regulations, and any other governing frameworks. Guide the team in adhering to legal, budgetary, and program-specific compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers. Ensure effective communication and collaboration to ensure timely deliveries and successful contract execution.
  • Provide expert support for cost estimation and budget planning for acquisitions. Assist program management in tracking expenditures, ensuring cost-effective procurement, and managing financial resources to meet program needs.
  • Identify potential risks in the acquisition process and develop strategies to mitigate them. Advise on risk-based decision-making and help manage issues related to contract delays, cost overruns, or vendor performance challenges.
  • Prepare and review acquisition-related documentation, including acquisition plans, acquisition strategies, vendor assessments, and contract performance reports. Provide regular updates to senior leadership on acquisition progress and challenges.
  • Work closely with engineering, logistics, legal, finance, and other program teams to ensure the acquisition process aligns with broader program objectives. Support the integration of acquisition activities into overall program management and execution.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to junior acquisition team members, ensuring they understand and follow best practices in acquisition processes and regulations.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in government acquisition, contract management, or a related field, with a focus on aviation or defense-related programs.
  • Experience in managing complex acquisitions within the aviation or defense sectors is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in resource management software, project management tools, and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Access, or similar systems).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of federal acquisition regulations (FAR, DFARS) and DoD procurement processes.
  • Strong understanding of aviation industry standards, including the procurement of aircraft, aviation systems, and related services.
  • Experience with acquisition management software and tools (e.g., SAP, Deltek, or similar).
  • Proficient in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial management as it relates to acquisitions.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
