Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a highly qualified Aeronautics Systems Engineer to support our government aviation program. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, integrating, and supporting complex aviation systems while leveraging expert knowledge of reference architecture frameworks and standards. This position involves developing system architectures, managing requirements, and ensuring that aviation systems meet mission-critical needs and operational objectives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in systems engineering, reference architecture development, and government or defense aviation programs.
Examples of duties include but not limited to:
- the development and design of aviation system architectures, ensuring that systems meet functional, technical, and performance requirements. Apply systems engineering principles throughout the lifecycle of aviation systems, from concept development to deployment and support. Analyze and integrate complex systems and subsystems, including avionics, communications, and flight control systems.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in reference architecture development, providing guidance on best practices and industry standards. Design and document reference architectures that define the structure and components of aviation systems, ensuring they are scalable, interoperable, and compliant with applicable regulations. Create and maintain system architecture models and documentation to facilitate system integration and development.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document system requirements for aviation programs. Define and manage system requirements and ensure traceability throughout the system development lifecycle. Develop and manage system specifications, ensuring they align with mission goals, budget, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee system integration activities, ensuring that subsystems and components function together as intended. Plan and support system testing, validation, and verification activities to ensure system performance meets the defined requirements. Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting and resolving system integration issues.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, operations personnel, and program managers, to deliver integrated systems. Serve as a technical liaison between government stakeholders, contractors, and engineering teams to ensure successful system integration.
- Support the full lifecycle management of systems, including design, development, deployment, and operational support. Ensure that system architecture is adaptable to future needs, evolving technologies, and system updates or upgrades.
- Create detailed technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, requirements traceability matrices, and integration plans. Provide regular reports and briefings to senior leadership and stakeholders on system status, technical risks, and project milestones.
- Ensure all system designs and integrations comply with applicable standards, regulations, and security requirements (e.g., DoD, FAA, NIST, and other relevant frameworks). Review and apply best practices for systems engineering, reference architecture, and security compliance in aviation programs.
