Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Network and Computer System Administrator (Network Access Control and WiFi Engineer) to support the Information Technology Services Desk and Engineering department for a Contract at U. S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Peraton is providing maintenance and operational IT support that includes engineering services for the systems, equipment, hardware, and software. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of network access technologies and WiFi systems, with a proven track record of designing, implementing, and managing complex network infrastructures. This position is located onsite at HHS in Washington, DC. Telework may be possible, but at the discretion of the customer.

 

What you'll do:

  • Design and Implementation:
    • Design, implement, and manage advanced WiFi and network access solutions.
    • Develop network architectures and strategies to ensure optimal performance and security.
    • Conduct site surveys and WiFi heat mapping to determine optimal access point placement.
  • Network Management:
    • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of network access and WiFi infrastructure.
    • Monitor network performance, identify issues, and implement solutions to enhance reliability and efficiency.
    • Manage network configurations, firmware upgrades, and patches.
  • Troubleshooting and Support:
    • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and resolution of network access and WiFi issues.
    • Assist in the development of troubleshooting guides and documentation for lower-level support teams.
    • Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve complex network issues.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce network security measures to protect against unauthorized access and threats.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Innovation and Optimization:
    • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
    • Evaluate new network access and WiFi solutions and make recommendations for improvements.
    • Optimize network performance through continuous monitoring and adjustments.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience or High School and 9 years of experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on WiFi and network access technologies.
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs.
  • Extensive experience with WiFi standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and related technologies.
  • Proficiency in using network analysis and monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, Ekahau, SolarWinds).
  • Knowledge of network security principles and practices.
  • Experience with network hardware from vendors like Cisco, Aruba, and Juniper.
  • Relevant certifications such as CWNA, CWNP, CCNP Wireless, or equivalent. (Must have 1)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • US Citizenship is required
  • Reside close to Washington DC for in office days as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with cloud-based networking solutions and SD-WAN technologies.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible).

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
