Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a mid-level Patch Management Engineer (“Engineer”) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals on our Department of State (DOS) Bureau of Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) Program. The CAEIO Program provides IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting CA services globally. 

The Patch Management Engineer will be a member of the Infrastructure Support team, which manages the physical and virtual infrastructure across CA/CST (Office of Consular Systems and Technology) that is outside the responsibility of the DOS Office of Information Resource Management (IRM). The team is comprised of Systems Architects, Engineers and Administrators. This includes all operational support for the hardware/software platforms on which the IT systems reside and operate.

Responsibilities

  • Support personnel, applications, and appliances employed to maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, to include but not limited to extensive engineering of Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
  • Install, configure, and tune operating systems, third-party applications, and operating system security patches.
  • Troubleshoot operating systems, applications, and databases.
  • Work with systems hosted in a complex, multi-layered network.
  • Cybersecurity control implementation, IT infrastructure management, resource monitoring and alerting.
  • Work with Storage Area Networks (SAN) and network systems, such as switches, load traffic managers, and firewalls.
  • Work with Infrastructure Teams to build, configure and maintain central management platforms, to deploy patches to an enterprise.
  • Test patches thoroughly before they are applied to endpoints to ensure outages do not occur.
  • Provide Tier 2 level engineering support for environments.
  • Maintain knowledge of all elements of the software development life cycle, including planning, development, requirements management, Configuration Management, quality assurance, and release management.
  • Deliver technical documentation and user documentation as required.
  • Provide on and off hours support to perform upgrades and patches.
  • Work closely with and clearly articulate to the customer and technical team leads the scope of solutions and remediation plans.
  • Leverage strong written and verbal communications skills to prepare and present technical documentation to audiences with different levels of technical knowledge.

 

Core Work Schedule: First shift: 7:00 AM ET - 3:30 PM ET (Flexible), Monday - Friday.

 

Work Location: This position is hybrid with remote work and up to two days per week in the office in Sterling, VA or Washington, DC.

 

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and active SECRET Government Security Clearance.
  • Mid-level knowledge of multi-platform engineering.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing patch management operations; creating baselines; and configuring hardened systems.
  • Experience with centrally managed Linux and Window systems patched through automated processes or, in some cases, manually, if required to bring the systems into compliance.
  • Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration – for example, system installation and configuration, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software.
  • Must understand one or more of the following systems: end-user operating systems, server operating systems, network appliances, virtualization, Storage Area Networks, and/or middleware.
  • Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts.
  • Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Bash, Perl, Python, VBScript, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity control implementation, IT infrastructure management, resource monitoring and alerting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Security teams to translate common vulnerability and exposures (CVE) into actionable mitigation and remediation steps.

Desired Qualifications

  • 2+ years administrating and securing Windows and Linux systems.
  • 2+ years' experience with VMWare, vSphere, vRealize and/or vCenter.
  • 2+ years networking experience with Cisco Switches.
  • Strong coordination, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to effectively execute tasks, resolve issues, and meet challenging schedules.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of databases (Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with CEPH (Object storage), Dell Data Domain, VxRail, VBlocks, f5 LTMs, Cisco UCS, NetApp.

Education and Experience Requirements: Minimum of 12 years with HS diploma; Minimum of 10 years with AS; Minimum 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD.

 

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
