Responsibilities

Ready to make an impact?  Peraton is seeking a Security Systems Administrator to join our team in Monrovia, California to support our Deep Space Network (DSN) program with JPL and NASA.  This is an on-site position - local candidates only, please.

 

The Security Systems Administrator (SSA) provides operational and project initiatives in performing cyber security-based assessments on both physical and virtual systems, evaluating security controls, and identifying potential weaknesses. SSA will monitor systems using commercial monitoring tools such as Splunk and BigFix. SSA supports the security requirements of the real-time operations team to ensure continuous and efficient systems operations and compliance.

 

The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

 

Responsibilities

The SSA evaluates FLTOPS system patches and works with OEs to initiate Cognitive Advisory Directives (CAD). Coordinates with JPL and DSN security for routine/scheduled security audits of FLTOPS systems. Monitor, investigate, remediate and respond to cyber security events received, through to resolution. Works closely with Engineering to understand IT infrastructure, test and evaluate technology for potential vulnerabilities, investigate and respond to security incidents, make cyber security recommendations, document security incidents and tracks to remediation. Maintain system security configuration control of FLTOPS systems. Support for Level-1 and Level-2 mission support activities (non-standard hours, weekends and holidays) as needed.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA with a minimum of 0-2 years of experience or 4 years of experience with no degree.
  • Solaris/Linux system administration experience and cyber security administration skillsets.
  • Understanding / experience with cloud computing infrastructure and virtual machines.
  • Experience with Splunk/BigFix management and configuration tools and applications.
  • Ability to script in administrative languages (e.g. Perl, Shell Scripts, etc.). 
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and US passport.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong network and host-based system security.
  • Strong virtualization management skillsets such as scalability and configuration control.
  • A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes.
  • A solid understanding of an operating systems inter-process, devices and device drivers, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions).
  • Able to use performance analysis to tune systems. 
  • Must have good interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with other members on the same team and with members from other teams and organizations.
  • Able to work with others and leverage their individual abilities to complete tasks on time, bring your unique ideas, your entrepreneurial spirit, and your drive to succeed.

 

Target Salary Range

$51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
