Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Senior Social Scientist, who is experienced working with a diverse team of linguists, analysts, and information operations (IO) planners to translate empirical research findings into operational assessments. The ability to work on a team in a collaborative environment is a requirement.
This position is based in Colorado Springs, CO.
As our Senior Social Scientist you will have the opportunity to:
- Be responsible for overseeing analytic and assessment projects evaluating the information environment (IE) in the US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR).
- Complete assessment reports in the form of briefs, PowerPoint presentations, and support inputs into C2IE (Command and Control in the Information Environment).
- Conduct assessments of the impact of psychological operations (PSYOP) in the information environment (IE) on target audiences, applying a combination of opinion research data, intelligence, operational reporting, and social media insights.
- Provide data visualization and explain quantitative and qualitative analysis from Peraton’s research team / vendors.
- Contribute to design of opinion research and interpretation of findings. Examples of opinion research includes survey, flash polls, focus groups, and in-depth interviews.
- Prepare status reports, assess project issues and risks, and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
- Develop, refine, and coordinate assessment and collection plans for active and future series in the theater being reported in the C2IE system.
- Create, determine resourcing, and/or coordinate with stakeholders, the collection of social, cultural, economic, political, religious, and regional identified indicators through all available sources to assess approved series in the theater.
- Review studies conducted by similar organizations and determine reliability, validity and other strength factors for potential use in theater.
- Create/lead innovative social science research initiatives, educate staff on proposed responsibilities, collect results from the implemented tasks, and report to senior-decision makers.
- Work independently or in collaboration with social scientists within and outside the theater.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 8 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s Degree, 6 years of relevant experience with a Masters or 3 years of relevant experience with PhD (in psychology, sociology, or cultural anthropology). 4 additonal years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
- Experience working with data analytic tool kits (e.g., Babel X, Predata, Zignal, Shadow Dragon, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience in use of all Microsoft Office products
- Willing and able to travel within USNORTHCOM AOR
- Current DoD TS/SCI or Top Secret with eligibility to obtain an SCI
- Must have Valid US Passport
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in in psychology, sociology, or cultural anthropology and more than 9 years of applicable experience
- Understanding concepts of AI-enabled analytics
- Joint intelligence or operational experience with U.S. Geographical Combatant Commands
- Focus on the USNORTHCOM AOR and associated problem sets
- Previous experience working at USNORTHCOM, USSOCNORTH, or forward elements in that AOR
- Statistical package expertise in IBM SPSS/PASW, R, STATA or MS Excel statistics
- Experience with campaign / operational assessments
- Comfortable using analytic tools kits.
- Experience working with opinion research vendors.

Target Salary Range
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
