Responsibilities

Peraton has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Cyber Intel team here in the Laurel, MD area!

 

As a Senior Software Engineer, you are expected to perform requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution at a high level of proficiency and independence. You are expected to communicate directions and provide guidance to more junior programmer/analysts, as required. Software Engineers must be adept at developing solutions which integrated or extended COTS or GOTS products. Additionally, Sr Software Engineers may be responsible for evaluating project needs, determining tasks and durations, and generating and reviewing designs for technical accuracy, completeness.  This is a position within a product development team, the candidate will have a primary focus on supporting all aspects of agile software design and development for a framework running on large scale compute clusters, to include development of new capabilities, testing, optimization and performance tuning, operation, and sustainment functions. The candidate will be responsible for addressing requirements and support ongoing Data Warehouse modernization activities. Expected tasks include the following:

  • Evaluate the status of the system on a regular basis via Kibana dashboards.
  • Help to diagnose/resolve operational issues.
  • Make suggestions for performance improvements to the operational system.
  • Perform/assist with installation of new releases and monitor the system post deployment for issues.
  • Assist the help desk in resolving user tickets, as well as assisting users who ask questions via email/chat room.
  • Lead/Participate in design of new features as well as re-designing exiting functionali
  • Take on some of the more challenging tasks/tickets that need to be completed.
  • Assist new developers on the team to come up to speed with the code, architecture of the system, and its future direction
Qualifications

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with current polygraph required
  • Twenty (20) years’ experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
    • Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum six (6) years demonstrated experience out of the most recent 8 years developing production
  • Demonstrated work experience developing RESTful service
  • Familiarity with cloud development techniques, resources, and tools

 

Core Competencies and Skills: 

  • Java programming for distributed systems
    • The candidate needs to demonstrate real strength and in depth understanding and experience using complex Java concepts such as multi-threading, database interaction, late binding frameworks (such as Google Guice or Spring), and stream based i/o.
  • Cassandra or some form of a no-sql database
  • Web application development - angular, nodeJs, backbone
  • Amazon S3 - Use/Understanding of the Rest API
  • Amazon EC2 - Setting up an entire production/development system within AWS/C2S
  • REST APls
  • Embedded Jetty server development
  • Agile development experience
  • Well-grounded in Linux fundamentals and knowledge in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Ruby, Perl, etc.)
  • Experience with source code management practices and tools. Enabling tools: Git, Maven, Jira
  • Continuous Integration/ Continuous Testing: Bamboo, Jenkins, GitLab Cl/Pipelines
  • Continuous Monitoring: ELK Stack (ElasticSearch, Logstash and Kibana), Nagios

Target Salary Range

$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
