Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to support EHS activities on the Acusil Program in Colorado Springs, CO. This position will be based onsite at Elkton Facility and will allow for some flexible telework; candidate must be local with ability to commute to the Colorado Springs, CO site.

 

The Acusil® Program manufactures thermal protection materials that are applied to parts received from customers, or these materials are molded, cured, and machined to print so that they may be bonded onto parts.  The customers we support are large and small Aerospace companies. The mission of our team is to provide customer satisfaction for product quality and delivery schedules while focusing internally on continuous improvement of our processes to reduce cost, rework and repair. 

 

As an EHS Specialist, you will report to the Acusil Program Manager to a fabrication facility EHS program for all aspects of the Elkton facility. You will ensure that all workplace hazards are thoroughly identified, analyzed, and mitigated to the lowest possible level. Additionally, you serve as the lead for all facilities and maintenance issues in addition to performing a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment. Coordinate routine and extensive maintenance and repair procedures on building, mechanical equipment and utility systems. Serve as the POC for all Peraton sites within Colorado Springs Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program.

 

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Execute Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program for Colorado Springs Elkton facility. Duties will include using a checklist to identify hazardous conditions, work practices, operations, and processes to include: chemical handling safety, EHS audits, environmental and human engineering assessments, root cause analysis of mishaps, emergency preparedness plans.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste handling, collection, disposal, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of an industrial safety and environmental program meeting contract requirements
  • Inspect and verify the operation and safety of equipment including, but not limited to, adjusting, calibrating, replacement, rebuilding repairing of all building equipment.
  • Provide contract-specific safety and environmental training, educational, and awareness materials
  • Lead for all facilities and maintenance issues in addition to performing a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the functions and operations of the operational equipment, systems and controls at the Acusil® facility. Perform tasks working as a member of a team with other staff members, providing help and assistance as required. Performs troubleshooting and maintenance in HVAC, electrical, electronics and plumbing; assists in obtaining quotes and arranging for services of outside vendors; obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed. Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures. Work on projects identified by the Managers and Leads requiring the services of the skilled craftsperson(s).
  • Coordinate routine and extensive maintenance and repair procedures on building, mechanical equipment and utility systems.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Safety, Engineering, Science, or related technical field and 1 or more years of related professional experience; in lieu of degree 5 years plus of additional experience with training/certificate or Associates degree
  • Experience leading efforts and coordinating teams to resolve ambiguities and develop achievable plans to solve problems
  • Experience implementing an EHS Management System (e.g., AS9100, ISO9001)
  • Experience managing hazardous waste and other environmental programs.
  • Training and certification of one or more of: lifting plans; industrial safety; environmental compliance
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical and chemical agents
  • Security clearance: this position requires ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance, if required by the program
  • Must be  US citizen and able to pass the background check and drug screening

 Desired Experience:

  • Develop, implement, and administer OSHA compliant safety and health programs.
  • Conducts risk assessments on equipment and manufacturing processes to ensure optimal safety.
  • Experience with compliance to quality, 6S, EPA, NEC, NFPA and OSHA requirements; assure conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Experience with response to hazardous material releases and provide spill cleanup according to Safety & Health standards while utilizing and interpreting chemical detection devices and associated equipment.

Target Salary Range

$51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
