Responsibilities
 

Are you a seasoned Linux Systems Administrator looking to take your expertise to the next level? Peraton is seeking a highly skilled Linux Systems Administrator IV to join our dynamic team, supporting an Intelligence Community customer in the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. If you're passionate about ensuring systems run at peak performance, resolving complex technical issues, and contributing to mission-critical operations, we want to hear from you!

What You’ll Do:

As a Linux Systems Administrator at Peraton, you’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining high availability across critical systems while rapidly troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges. You’ll be the go-to expert for systems monitoring, patch management, and performance tuning, ensuring the smooth operation of our customer’s infrastructure. Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

  • Systems Monitoring & Maintenance: Perform daily system monitoring and monthly patching to ensure optimal system health and uptime.
  • Rapid Troubleshooting: Use your problem-solving skills to address network and application performance issues, resolving incidents via a ticketing system with a focus on minimizing downtime.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with government customers, project leads, security officers, application vendors, and end users to ensure seamless operations. Your ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders will be key.
  • Documentation & Process Improvement: Lead the creation and revision of key technical documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Security Test Procedures (STP), System Install Procedures (SIP), and more. Simplify complex configurations for broader understanding.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement system hardening and security protocols, ensuring compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and patching requirements.
  • Off-Hours Availability: Be prepared to troubleshoot critical issues and perform software patching during off-hours when required.

Who You Are:

We’re looking for a dedicated and driven professional who thrives in high-stakes environments. If you have a passion for Linux systems administration, cybersecurity, and operational excellence, this role is for you. To succeed, you should have:

  • Expert Linux Knowledge: Proven experience with Linux systems, particularly CentOS, with a strong understanding of system security and hardening.
  • Technical Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to rapidly diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in both network and application environments.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders including government clients, security personnel, and technical vendors.
  • Documentation Excellence: Experience in creating and updating detailed technical documentation with clarity and precision.
  • Oracle Database Familiarity: Working knowledge of Oracle database environments, particularly on both Windows and CentOS platforms.
  • Commitment to Security: Experience implementing STIG guidelines and patching protocols to maintain the highest levels of security.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Active TS/SCI w/poly OR SCI ebigibility and ability to successfully pass a polygraph.
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree that is applicable to the positions and at least 8 years of relevant experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum 5 years of experience with systems administration, at least 3 of which must be Linux Admin.
  • Strong experience with Unix, Linux and CentOS operating systems. Must be comfortable administering from the command line.
  • Strong understanding of system hardening and security through the implementation of Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Patching
  • Experience with Amazon Web Service (AWS) Cloud experience
  • Experience with VMWare
  • Active Security+ (DoD 8570 Baseline certification for IAT Level II)

  • Familiar with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server Databases

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
