Responsibilities

Peraton is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to lead a mechanical team supporting spaceflight instrument development at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC.

 

Responsibilities for this position include detailed structural and mechanical design for instruments and experimental payload programs. The efforts associated with these tasks include the design, modeling, analysis, development, fabrication, testing and alignment of precision structures, mechanical interfaces/enclosures, and mechanisms.

 

The candidate must have experience using Finite Element Modelling (FEM) tools for flight loads, stress, and dynamic analysis. They must also be familiar with fracture control plans and procedures.

 

As a team lead, the candidate will also oversee:

  • Conceptual and detailed mechanical design studies.
  • Conceptual and detailed designs and drawings for instruments, payload, and spacecraft structures as well as Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
  • Layout and detailed fabrication drawings in Computer Aided Design (CAD) formats.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum BS Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics (preferably MS Engineering) from an accredited institution with at least 12 years of aerospace related experience
  • Experience in structural analysis for flight hardware
  • Experience in the design and testing of flight hardware, specifically design and analysis efforts for the development of spacecraft mechanical systems, and sub-systems.
  • You will lead a team of at least five people 
  • Secret level Security Clearance

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
