Responsibilities

 

Peraton Space Technology Services (STS) is the prime contractor on the Environmental Test and Integration Services III (ETIS III) contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).  We support the GSFC Engineering and Technology Directorate’s Mechanical Systems Division in Greenbelt, Maryland. We provide facility operations and maintenance as well as integration and testing to support spaceflight hardware development. 

 

The GSFC Environmental Test and Integration Facilities ensure spacecraft and flight experiments will withstand the rigors of launch and will operate properly in the space environment. In addition to operations, these technical facilities have on-going goals of advancing the state-of-the-art in the development of improved space flight systems. The GSFC Environmental Test and Integration Facilities are one of the most complete and comprehensive space hardware test complexes within the United States Government. Join our dynamic and diverse Peraton Technology Services Team on site, at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), as a Pressure Vessels & Systems Engineer. 

 

Provides experienced support for the engineering analysis and certification of pressure vessels and systems (PVS) at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and other select remote locations. PVS includes cryogenic, vacuum, hydraulic, hydrazine and compressed gases (including air) systems, subsystems, purge carts, R&D systems, test articles, relief valves, gages, flexible hoses and other components.

Responsibilities of the position:

 

  • Perform engineering evaluations/analysis, report preparation, review of the existing documentation, risk assessment, preparation for inspection, and review of visual and non-destructive examinations for pressure systems on local and remote sites.
  • Develop recommendations to meet NASA/GSFC requirements.
  • Update or develop in-service inspection procedures and direct periodic in-service inspections
  • Maintain the accuracy of the database on certification activities.
  • Will communicate, inform and interact with other Contractor and Government personnel including Systems Managers, Facilities Managers, Building Managers, Engineers, Safety and Environmental Management Office Personnel, System and Research Engineers and others.
  • Provide consulting services to user organizations on PVS compliance requirements, design, fabrication, installation and testing.
  • May be assigned to train, certify and recertify ETIS III or PERATON personnel for High Pressure Systems Operations.
  • Perform periodic PVS program requirement reviews to support continuous improvement.
  • May be utilized for projects within other ETIS III or PERATON departments on an as-needed basis.
  • May perform temporary duties in other areas or other duties associated with area of assignment. 

 

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and phone skills.
  • Lift and carry items up to 35 pounds.
  • May be required to climb ladders for visual verification of system configuration. 
  • Work is accomplished in an office setting shared by others. Some travel to other sites or remote locations may be required. 
  • Work with other personnel in a group that is team-oriented.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or related technical/analytical field from a four year accredited university.
  • Significant experience performing engineering analysis and/or design of pressure vessels and/or systems based on nationally-recognized codes and standards, especially ASME B31.3 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII.
  • Experience with the following codes as they relate to pressure vessels and systems: ASME, ASTM, CGA, NBIC, API.
  • Experience with software for pressure system analysis, such as PV Elite, CAESAR II, AutoCAD, or other modeling and analysis software is highly desired.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in pressure vessel system certification for NASA is highly desired
  • Experience with analysis/evaluation of older vessels is highly desired.
