Responsibilities
Be part of our exciting team supporting a robust, world-wide communications network, providing office automation packages; document and information management tools; and collaboration, voice, and video tools in a secure, flexible, distributed architecture supporting a classified DoD IT system deployed worldwide. Seeking a Senior Solaris Engineer to lead and guide all design and upgrade efforts encompassing the Solaris server environments across a large-scale enterprise Information Technology (IT) program.
- Using a holistic approach, designs, develops, evaluates, and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle.
- Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics.
- Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods.
- Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.
- Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall product development. Designs interfaces and brings system elements together, so they work as a whole.
- Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures. Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements.
- Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower-level detailed requirements.
- Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation.
- Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures.
- Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements.
- Responsible for insuring compliance with all regulations, optimizing system performance, and supporting future planning of Solaris-based systems
- Design, build, and integrate Operating System (OS) baselines with security hardened configuration for Solaris servers; design ongoing maintenance practices and procedures for OS patching and updates
- Package and integrate 3rd party software with security hardened configuration; and design ongoing maintenance practices and procedures for software patching and updates
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher with 12+ years of experience; additional 4+ years in lieu of degree
- Minimum of 10+ years of Unix operating system experience
- Minimum of 8+ years Linux operating system experience including: system internals; file system structures, design, and performance tuning at an enterprise level; backup; recovery; testing methodologies; storage; data replication; DISA system hardening guidelines
- Proven experience insuring compliance with all regulations, optimizing system performance, and supporting future planning
- General knowledge of ITIL and the use of MS Project
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) credentials as an Oracle Solaris System Administrator
- Current ITIL Foundations certification
- Must possess an active TS/SCI

Target Salary Range
$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
