Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Software Lead Engineer to join the Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) Ground Sustainment Services (LGSS) program to add to our distinguished team to sustain and enhance the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Common Ground System (CGS). The JPSS CGS is responsible for implementing JPSS Program command, control, and communications and data processing requirements for JPSS CGS-serviced missions. The JPSS is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation Program that acquires and distributes global environmental data from multiple polar-orbiting satellites, playing a critical role to NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans, coasts, and space environments, which supports the Nation’s economy and protects life and property.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of 10-15 software engineers. Will be responsible for managing the team in their daily tasks through scrums/daily standups, mentoring, and other personnel/task management activities. Will provide release management/direction to the team, handle direct customer interaction regarding what the team is doing/is capable of doing, and interface with other teams such as the test team and CM. Will be responsible for managing in an agile environment through scrum master/owner interactions and various other project setup/tracking/managing tasks.
- Support the development and sustainment for Satellite Ground Station Command and Control applications that covers the entire Software Development Lifecycle ensuring system compatibility to meet program technical, schedule and cost objectives.
- Develop, debug, test, and document software written in Java, C++, Powershell, Python, Perl, Groovy, Bash, XML, etc.
- Write and maintain automated tests.
- Confer with systems engineers, test engineers, and other cross-functional teams to develop technical solutions to complex problems.
- Support release planning, through level of effort estimates and tasking prioritization from experience and investigations.
- Utilize JIRA in an Agile development environment.
- Provide mentoring to junior members of the team.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of Engineering experience with BS/BA, minimum of 6 years with MS/MA, and 3 with PhD.
- Experience managing/leading a team in their daily tasks through scrums/daily standups.
- Experience with software development methodologies and life cycles.
- Experience developing software using Java, C++, Python, Perl, Powershell, Bash etc.
- Familiar with common software development tools including Git, Gradle, Ant, Jenkins, etc.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
- Extensive experience with Windows OS.
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with automated testing tools (e.g., JUnit).
- Experience with VHDL and developing Linux RHEL drivers
- Familiar with the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira, Insight, Confluence, Risk Register, Crucible, Bitbucket, etc.
- Familiar with working within a distributed virtual team environment, with proficiency in remote collaboration tools and practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to foster strong relationships with coworkers and customers.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to dynamically tailor communications effectively to different levels of the organization.
- Willing to learn new things.
Target Salary Range
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
