Program Overview
Provide critical communications and tracking for multiple spacecraft from three complexes located globally, and operates year round 24 hours/7days to provide continuous contact with the spacecraft. The program fulfills NASA goals by supporting NASA deep space mission set, including NASA-funded missions and collaborative international missions.
About The Role

 

Peraton is seeking a Data Processing Systems Software Operations Engineer to support our Deep Space Network (DSN) Operations and Maintenance O&M contract with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and NASA in Monrovia, CA.

 

The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never-before-seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

 

The successful candidate will oversee the lifecycle management of software components used in data processing. The candidate may be responsible for multiple assemblies and must understand their capabilities, performance standards, and limitations.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform acceptance testing and create comprehensive test reports
  • Support Project Interface Testing and Demonstrations at DTF-21 and DSCCs
  • Take part in DSN design and readiness reviews
  • Review and critique technical procedures for the installation, test and operation of subsystem
    software components
  • Determine test resource requirements and schedule tests to meet project deadlines
  • Identify and categorize Software Anomalies (ARs) and work with the CDE toward resolution
  • Liaise between station personnel and DSN Development and Operations Services Office (DDOSO) for the resolution of operational problems, failures, and discrepancies
  • Monitor, measure, and analyze SPS subsystem functions and performance
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve discrepancies, failures, and problems
  • Provide real-time technical support for critical and high-profile DSN activities and events
  • Analyze discrepancy reports (DRs)
  • Coordinate with Deep Space Communications Complex (DSCC) personnel and JPL Design Engineering to investigate failures and resolve operational problems
  • Maintain technical cognizance of subsystem capabilities, configurations and performance
  • Support System Performance Analysis Reporting
  • Develop operational processes to prevent, avoid, or work around anomalies that could affect
    the quantity or quality of data services
  • Provide technical guidance to DSCCs in the form of system-dependent Cognizant OE
    Advisory/Directives (CAD)
  • Lead the effort to mentor less experienced OEs to support the SPS products and services
Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field. 0 years of experience with BS/BA or 4 years of experience with no degree.
  • Must be competent in test theory, test methodologies, software safety, and the fundamentals of computer science and software design.
  • Must possess strong organizational and communication skills and be able to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities to meet deadlines on projects.
  • Travel to Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Goldstone Deep Space Communication Complex (GDSCC) to support customer requirements. 
  • The ability to undergo a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC).

  • Experience with DSN processes governing Test and Transfer
  • Fast learner, interested in problem solving, a self-starter who can make defined requirements from a user's inputs, and be flexible with solutions.
  • Experience interfacing successfully across various departmental levels.
  • Capacity to adapt to change quickly.
  • Analytical skills, detail oriented and ability to multi-task.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Candidate must be able to work in a team environment; proactive; innovative; articulate; able to present briefing material to customers during formal reviews; demonstrate good problem-solving techniques and skills.

Details

Target Salary Range: $51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
