Program Overview
About The Role

We are Hiring! Our CDC Chronic Division is looking to add a Health Communications Specialist! Chronic diseases are responsible for 7 in 10 deaths each year and treating people with chronic diseases accounts for many of our nation’s health care costs.

 

We know that most chronic diseases can be prevented by eating well, being physically active, avoiding tobacco and excessive drinking, and getting regular health screenings. CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) helps people and communities prevent chronic diseases and promotes health and wellness for all.

 

What will you do:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote public health awareness and understanding of chronic disease prevention and health promotion issues.
  • Create and distribute digital communication materials on health topics, tailored for audiences.
  • Manage regular internal and external inquiries, responding in a timely way with emphasis on customer service.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and workshops on health topics to CDC staff, contractors, and fellows.
  • Work with other members of the center level and divisions level teams to develop and implement communication programs that support the organization's mission and goals.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the degree.
  • 5 years of experience in Health Communication..
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong project management or project coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering clear and precise work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks and projects within the deadlines provided.
  • Strong knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong project coordination and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks within tight and shifting deadlines.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to organize information and present results to the client.
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Green Card Holder.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required Agency clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in public health communications at CDC.
  • Experience working with the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
  • Knowledge/interest in digital media technology and trends.
  • Working knowledge of CDC communications standards, policies, and processes, e.g., plain language guidelines and clearance processes.

Details

Target Salary Range: $66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
