Program Overview
Peraton provides the customer with enterprise infrastructure support to plan, engineer, implement, enhance, maintain and operate the global consular affairs IT environment.
About The Role

Peraton is seeking a Junior Systems Engineer to become part of the Department of State (DOS) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) Program. This program supports the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) and provides 24/7 IT Operations and Maintenance in support of legacy and modernized networks, applications, databases, and infrastructure domestically and overseas. 

 

The Junior Systems Engineer will be a member of the Engineering Team which is responsible for working closely with other CAEIO teams, CA application/system owners, and Government Leadership to facilitate delivery of Consular Affairs services worldwide and ensure mission success. 

 

We are seeking applicants who will graduate in May 2025 or have graduated within the past 18 months.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Support systems engineering for mission essential capabilities hosted in overseas locations, domestically, and in the cloud.
  • Support automation efforts for systems, applications, databases, and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and teams to support deployments and troubleshooting of overseas systems (work is performed remotely from US).   
  • Adhere to Department of State procedures and requirements when implementing system security, scalability and performance.
  • Participate in Consular Affairs working groups and priority initiatives related to enterprise architecture, cloud, and application modernization. 
  • Leverage required tools (Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow) to track all engineering features, stories, and tasks.  
  • Ensure all configuration changes follow approved change management processes and security configuration guidelines.  
  • Support Government Customer with ad hoc tasks and data calls. 

 

Core work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. There may be occasions where work will be extended in the evening to support overseas locations.

 

Work location: Hybrid: Remote AND up to one day per week in the office in Sterling, VA (5 minutes from Dulles Airport) 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a SECRET government security clearance and TOP SECRET, if needed.
  • Basic understanding of networking, client-server architecture, application/database design, and cloud principles.  
  • Experience with application/database/system administration, computer programming, and/or system support.
  • Problem solving, communication, collaboration and time management skills are a must. 
  • Ability to work in a high tempo environment. 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Hands-on experience with networking, servers, databases, virtual/physical infrastructure, cloud, and containerized environments.
  • Experience with databases and data structures.
  • Experience with programming languages and scripting. 
  • Industry relevant certifications. 
  • Experience working with teams.

 

Education and Experience: 0 years with BS/BA (preferably in Computer Science or related field)

SCA / Union / Intern Rate or Range

Details

Target Salary Range: $66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
